Emerge Chapters and My love for Google Docs!

Hi Emerge Community!

My name is Lyndz and I have been working with Emerge this Fall to coordinate Emerge Chapters across the country. We hope that this mechanism of our organization will be more than just a fundraising arm, as we aim to inspire each member to enact change in their communities and beyond.

So far we have 6 College Chapters at MIT, Indiana University, Michigan State University, University of North Carolina, Wellesley, and Oxford!! IU is being spear-headed by Melanie, MSU by Ann, UNC by Lauren, Wellesley by Balim, and Oxford by Alia! These ladies really are troopers, as they were subject to many mis-communications until I learned to start storing EVERYTHING in a Google Doc; so a BIG shout-out to our initial chapter founders :)

Emerge Global has implemented EG Chapters as a vital piece to the nonprofit's fundraising and marketing strategy. Each Chapter will showcase the handmade, uniquely designed jewelry of young girls, who participate in the Emerge Bead Program as survivors of sexual abuse, to a global market which in turn generates the financial means needed to support the healing of more survivors; thereby revealing her beauty, her strength, and her independence. Most importantly this outreach program has been implemented in order to build a community and network of dedicated women and men who, in alignment with Emerge Global's mission, are inspired to affect change in the communities in which they live and those communities across the borders of towns, nations, and continents.

Emerge Global recruits and and develops Emerge Global Chapters of three types: College, High School, and Community. All three are obligated to host at minimum 1 sale per every 6 months/semester, for which advanced notice must be given, and must host at minimum 1 Lotus Table Discussion concerning Women's and International Development Issues per every 6 months/semester. The Lotus Tables are the crucial piece to the EG Chapter's community and network building efforts. Lotus Tables are essentially roundtable discussions concerning Women's or International Development Issues or other topics that the chapter sees fit. We encourage each chapter to collaborate and co-host events.

Remember, an EG Chapter is a part of your community and network, so it can be unique and no member should be afraid to branch off from the simple foundation we lay out for you. Do you want to raise money for EG through a Dance-a-thon, a Fun-Run? Do you want to create a career counseling seminar for the women in a local shelter? Do you want to share the EG story to a Girls Scout Troop and guide them through a sale? Do you want to raise funds for a rape crisis center in Mexico or a Midwife Clinic in Uganda? Do you want to start a domestic violence awareness campaign on campus? Do you want to Co-Sponsor a week-long Women's Symposium??? Go for it!

Lastly, as we are trying to create an outreach program that is mesh between a fundraising arm and a community for action, we will do our best to ensure that you DO get something out of the EG Chapter program.

INTERESTED?? Send me an email at lyndz@emergeglobal.org so that we can get started! (And so I can add you to my Google Doc :)

Best,
Lyndz Steeves
Emerge Global Outreach Director

Sell Baby, Sell

Since coming back to the USA in October, I've been focused on Emerge jewelry sales in addition to coordinating Emerge's US team. I love selling Emerge jewelry. It's incredibly rewarding to speak to customers and spread the story of how and why our jewelry was created, and every product we sell reminds me of one of our beautiful and persevering young girls in Sri Lanka.

This holiday season we've implemented a sales strategy that relies on several different sales outlets. The first is campus sales, Emerge's hallmark method of both selling jewelry and spreading awareness. The MIT Emerge Holiday Sale (this year December 2nd through 4th) has become expected by our MIT and Boston community of supporters. We're hoping to replicate our success in Boston at three other college campuses: University of North Carolina, Indiana University, and Michigan State University.

Our second method is through Emerge Agents - supporters who organize and sell Emerge jewelry on our behalf while simultaneously educating their communities about violence against women and what Emerge Global is doing to combat this. Modeled off of Mary Kay, Emerge Agents will be a key sales outlet for Emerge moving forward. This holiday season our first four agents, Katie Gary, Shantal De Silva, Eva Enns, and Nellum Lewis, will be piloting the program, and I can't wait to see how the sales go! If you're interested in becoming an Emerge Agent, please email me at ellen@emergeglobal.org.

The third way we're selling jewelry this holiday season is through event sales. Emerge has been invited to the Fair Trade Holiday Sale at Boston College, Helen Holiday Hoopla in West Lafayette, and has already participated in Shecky's Boston Girls Night Out (pictured below). To read more about our incredibly successful Shecky's sale, where we sold nearly $2000 worth of jewelry, click here.

And finally, online sales! Products have been flying off the (virtual) shelves at the Emerge Global Etsy Store, and in anticipation for the holiday season we will be posting over 70 new pieces so check back soon! With so many opportunities to buy Emerge jewelry this holiday season, there's really no excuse not to. By attending one of our sales or purchasing online, you're not only receiving a beautiful and unique gift, but are also playing a key role in the growth and expansion of Emerge Global. Thank you in advance!

Emerge Jewelry Featured in Photo Blog: "Prettiest Leaf of the Fall"

A friend of mine posted a blog that I thought was too beautiful not to share. Check out the incredible fall colors of Boston and how they complement our Fall/Winter Emerge jewelry collection! I'm so glad our jewelry got to be a part of this beautiful picture. Now all we need to convince Clare to help us put together our lookbook for potential retailers...

Emerge Global/Shecky's Event A Huge Success!

Last week's Emerge Global sale at Shecky's Boston Girls Night Out was madness from start to finish. The three-day sale, from Tuesday through Thursday, allowed us to meet hundreds of women in the Boston area, both spreading the word about Emerge Global and selling jewelry in the process. By Thursday evening we had sold almost $2000 in jewelry, a phenomenal showing for our first Shecky's event.

And Shecky's has been the gift that keeps on giving. With another Boston Girls Night Out scheduled for Spring 2010 to which Emerge has been invited to participate, you can expect to see Emerge jewelry at Shecky's events in the future! In addition, Shecky's featured Emerge Global in their blog today under the title "Buy Local, Help Global" and we've already seen a big jump in our online jewelry sales from the publicity.

The Emerge Global - Shecky's collaboration is an exciting development for Emerge in the USA. I want to thank all of the Emerge Global volunteers who helped to make the sale not only possible but incredibly successful. In particular, dedicated Emerge volunteer Mika Kissenkoetter (pictured above) was our Shecky's rock, running the sale every single day! Thank you Mika, and all of our Emerge volunteers! And to all the women in Boston, watch out for Emerge Global this Spring!
